  1. Garbiñe Muguruza Blanco (born 8 October 1993) is a Venezuelan-Spanish professional tennis player who represents Spain in tennis competitions. As of 23 May 2016, she is ranked world No. 4 in singles and No. 29 in doubles by the WTA. Muguruza is the 2016 French Open champion. Her other career highlights include her maiden title at the 2014 Moorilla Hobart International, the 2015 China Open, and reaching the final of the 2015 Wimbledon Championships. Muguruza has also enjoyed success in doubles, winning five doubles titles and reaching one Grand Slam semi-final at the 2014 French Open, all with her compatriot, Carla Suárez Navarro. Muguruza achieved her career-high singles ranking of world No. 2 and doubles ranking of world No. 10 in June 2016 and February 2015 respectively. Muguruza was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1993 to a Basque father, José Antonio Muguruza from Eibar, Gipuzkoa,[1] and a Venezuelan mother, Scarlet Blanco; and she has two brothers. She has dual Venezuelan-Spanish nationality. She began playing tennis at the age of three and after moving to Spain with her family in 1999,[2] Muguruza trained at the Bruguera Tennis Academy near Barcelona.
