Coupet

Cafu -- Lucio -- Carragher -- Del Horno

Garcia ----- Lampard ----- Robben

Ronaldinho

Toni --------- Eto'o

Manager: Benitez

In terms of achievement, I've been impressed with Coupet's displays behind the Lyon defence. He's played very well most of the time I've seen him.

2nd place: Cech

I picked Lucio and Carragher because they've been magnificent in helping both their clubs in defence.

Lucio has become a monstrous figure in the Bayern backline as they've adopted the defensive approach, and he even finds time to score. Much better than Terry I think.

Carragher cause he's so motivational and influential in the backline. He'd bleed for the red shirt and he proved that in the final. He's continuing his fine form into this season, with the world record for clean sheets within Liverpool's reach.

2nd choices: Puyol and Cannavaro

I picked Del Horno for his performances in La Liga and with Chelsea. He's been quiet, but he's fit in well. He defends well and is good in the air, making some great runs from deep.

2nd choice: Maldini

Cafu gets my pick for right back. I just can't get over how well he plays every week, with a smile on his face and at such an 'old' age. That and no one else really tickled my fancy.

2nd choice: Sagnol

Right mid goes to Luis Garcia. Even though he's not in the same class as the others, last year he defended well and scored some magnificent goals, each one as important as the last to help Liverpool through the Champion's League and domestically.

2nd choice: Joaquin

I chose Robben for his great season at Chelsea and internationally. Even though he only had a short stint, he's proved to be a terrific player when he's at his dazzling best. 7 goals & 7 assists in 14 games. Can't ask for much more can you? The only bad thing was his injuries.

2nd choice: Malouda

Lampard for central mid. It was a tough one, but Gerrard was out for 3 months. Lamps deserves it for his weekly performances in the Chelsea midfield. Always at his best, week in week out. Consistency at the top level is a trait not many have.

2nd choice: I can't choose :chicken:

Attacking mid goes to Ronnie. No suprise there, but once again it was a tough pick.

2nd choice: Kaka or Juninho

Forwards I went for Toni and Eto'o. Eto'o has been phenomenal for Barca, but I have a feeling the best is yet to come. I didn't know who else to pick, but from what I've read, Toni is good, bagging them in for club and country. Henry was up there, but he didn't impress on the world stage.

2nd choice: Henry

Managers proved a tough choice as well. I knew little about the CSKA manager so  I picked Rafa simply because of his Champion's League exploits and current Liverpool form.

2nd choice: Mourinho or Hiddink

"The sight of Heidi Klum looking after our balls should fill us all with anticipation" - Gary Lineker (WC draw)

and Liverpool lost 1-0.

We hit the bar twice, had 3 goals disallowed and 1 penalty waved away.

I guess it just wasn't our night
