Frederick Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 This thread's fun, but did I see the cover of The Bends posted? Definitely not a Britpop band, them Radiohead boys. We need some Ocean Colour Scene, Menswear and Sleeper posted too! Quote
alisa Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 well, i cannot post all pics at 24 hours!!! and yeah, radiohead are not britpop band, but the second album and also partially first were presented as a part the whole britpop mania... britpop wasn't just about music, it was lifestyle. and after few years of silence, it came back in a slightly different packages... the libs, arctic monkeys, etc... all influenced by '90. it is very hard to find some pics of certain bands like ash or sleeper or even elastica, but thank God for youtube... there are many documentaries and videos from many various artists. Frederick Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I suppose you're right, The Bends was often wrongly labelled as Britpop, by virtue of being a record by a British band in 1995. I would also say that The Libertines' influences extend beyond merely 1990s indie rock, but again, I get what you mean. That being said, I'd say Blur had more in common with Madness and then Pavement than they did with Oasis, which shows you that yeah, the term Britpop was pretty darn vague. You're probably right about the lifestyle, if you were partying with Loaded magazine editors in the West End, snorting coke in the toilets with Goldie, or even just on the cover of the NME, you were most likely dubbed a Britpopper.
