Well, of course all Europeans already know, but now America also has to appreciate the fact that cycling is the best, most exciting, most extreme, most beautiful, most heroic and most artistic sport in the world. And not just a sport where some Texan with yellow armbands beat the shit out of the French (not that there is anything wrong with that).

So, I thought we'd need a good new thread to discuss everything about cycling. The Tour of Spain is on right now, providing some of the toughest stages in any race, the world championship is coming up soon and there is always the constant discussion of "what will happen in France after Lance?"

The World Championship is on! Nothing big today, except an Armstrong placed third in the women's time trial

Tomorrow the men's time trial, and on Sunday: The big race, the elite men's road race.

There are other types of cycling disciplines. I play bike trials. It's like using a bicycle to go over stuff.

The whole Paris-Roubaix thing pisses me off. Yes, perhaps the two Discovery guys and Van Petegem (sp?) broke the rules, but it's an obvious double-standard that they didn't DQ Boonen and co. as well.

Anyways, was all the same to me, there was no way any of them was going to catch Cancellara anyways. And the guys disqualified were countrymen, as was the guy who was ultimately second (Boonen).

Apparently you are unaware of the fact that Tom Boonen and his group went through the cross after the train had passed, but BEFORE the gates were up, thus violating the rules.

Absolutely. Roglic was very fast, but Alaphilippe is just an absolute wonder. What fun it was too to see Valverde rolling back the years.

I did too. I'd guess the consensus will be that Roglic attacked too early, but he must have known that he needed a long punch to have a chance of winning. This is a race that seems tailor made for Alaphilippe, though. Five starts, twice second, three wins. Just absolutely mind-boggling.
