Samuel Stewart "Sam" Witwer (born October 20, 1977) is an American actor and musician.

Early lifeWitwer grew up in Glenview, Illinois, a small suburb outside of Chicago. He attended Glenbrook South High School, during which time he was involved in drama and theater classes, as well as being the lead singer of a high school band called "Love Plummer". He attended the prestigious Juilliard School of Drama for a time before moving to Los Angeles.

Acting

Witwer claims that his first on-screen credit was that of a Chicago Bulls commercial. He soon found himself in speaking roles on hit television series such as "ER". Witwer's first major recurring role came in the form of portraying "Lt. Crashdown" on Battlestar Galactica although he has credited much of his current success to his role as Neil Perry on the Showtime series Dexter. A lifetime Star Wars fan, he appeared as Darth Vader's secret apprentice, Starkiller/Galen Marek and as Darth Sidious, in the massively successful multimedia project Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, providing both his voice and likeness to the game's lead character across all of the media. He has since received much praise for his contribution to the role. He reprised his role as Galen Marek in the video game: Soulcalibur IV. as well as the Force Unleashed sequel: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. There is also speculation that he will reprise his role of Starkiller for the Star Wars live-action TV series. Witwer also appeared as a soldier, Jessup, in The Mist. In 2008, Witwer was cast as Davis Bloome, the human camouflage of Doomsday (a character from the Superman comics, best known for being the only villain to have killed the Man of Steel), a charming paramedic, on Smallville who is struggling with a darkness within. Davis Bloome was killed off in the season finale by Jimmy Olsen, while Doomsday- the two having been separated by the use of black kryptonite- was buried alive by Clark Kent. In addition to playing Davis Bloome/Doomsday. Witwer also played the role of General Zod, a role originally played by Michael Rosenbaum and Terence Stamp in the Smallville series: He voiced Zod in the Season 8 pen-ultiamte episode: Injustice and played the character in full-physical form at the end of the Season 8 finale. The role would later be played by British actor Callum Blue, whose look and voice match that of the original Zod actor: Terence Stamp, in Season 9 of the series. While Witwer played the human form of Davis Bloome, the real form of Doomsday is played by stuntman and actor Dario Delacio.

Music

Witwer states that his first love is music and he is consequently the lead singer of his own band: "The Crashtones". They released their first CD entitled "Colorful of the Stereo" in 2006, a product which he says was very much the result of solo input. Witwer has since assembled a live line-up consisting of professional musicians and others in the industry, including Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Glenn Howerton, with whom he plays gigs whenever time allows it. Fans of the band have been assured that more music is currently being written and recorded. Witwer gives regular interviews and is a recurring guest on d20 Radio's Order 66 podcast. He currently resides in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

Sam Witwer from Being Human

For a guy who deals with supernatural elements daily, is a major Star Wars video game character and plays musical gigs with people like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Glenn Howerton (aka Dennis), you’d think Sam Witwer would be a little more eclectic when it comes to fashion.

But the 33-year-old says his personal style is pretty much limited to a T-shirt and jeans. His go-to outfit? T-shirt and jeans. And his fashion icon? Why, Jeans and T-Shirt Man, of course. After all, the 6’1″ actor/musician already exemplifies the classic tousled yet stylish persona. Sam is probably most recognizable from his current role as Aidan on the supernatural drama Being Human on SyFy Channel, but he has also worked on such shows as Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Dexter. He’s also recognized for lending his voice to a video game protagonist, and is the lead singer of his own band, The Crashtones, who released their first CD in 2006.

Sam gives Runway his humorous take on Aidan’s garlic allergy, the impact that video games have had on his career and the scoop on two recent projects.

Runway: Do you relate to your On Being Human character, Aidan, at all?

Sam Witwer: I like that he’s a man of conscience…or at least he is deep down. He also happens to be a vampire, so that throws a monkey wrench into things. As for how we’re similar, we look a lot alike. Almost exactly alike. As for standout moments, I loved Aidan’s allergic reaction to garlic and the broad comedic nature of that moment. Nice to have Josh [the werewolf] play the straight man for once.

R: Can you let us know something unique behind the scenes?

SW: I don’t wear any makeup. Everyone else does, thus making me look pale. A seeerious white guy.

R: What about fashion? What’s your personal style?

SW: Jeans and a T-shirt.

R: Any fashion icons?

SW: Jeans and T-Shirt Man. He’s a superhero with the power of jeans and a T-shirt.

R: You’ve worked on productions such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Star Wars, Dexter and Crank. What has been your favorite role?

SW: Aside from Being Human, I really dig playing the Starkiller character from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It was fun to adopt a 1940s pace to the character and give him a 1970s antihero feel-hopefully making him blend in with the style that Mark Hamil, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher created for that original 1977 film. As a side note, Dexter‘s Neil Perry was actually quite a lot of fun. Disturbed characters generally aren’t fun for me to play, but Neil was fun.

Sam’s One-on-One interview with Atlanta Sci-Fi TV Examiner

osted 14th September , 2011 Interview with Sam at Dragon*Con by Hanako M. Ricks …quot; as posted by examiner.com/atlanta.How do you play a character fighting to belong to two worlds? In the SyFy Channel series “Being Human“, actor Sam Witwer has to do just that as Aidan, a 207-year old vampire who is struggling to fit in in the human world. And when we say struggling, we mean it.

By day, Aidan is a hospital employee determined to appear as normal as possible to the outside world; in reality, he is struggling with his vampire side for dominance, while also being best friends/roommates with werewolf Josh (played by Sam Huntington) and a recently departed ghost, Sally (played by Meaghan Rath). Not exactly the stuff “normal” is made of.

When last seen, Aidan found himself an unwilling pawn in the quest for vampire dominance by his maker, Bishop (played by Mark Pellegrino). The decisions Aidan makes will have not only have huge consequences for himself, but also the people he loves, as he continues to fight to be the person he wants to be, not what others try to make him.
