20-year-old Chinese sweetheart Xiao Wen Ju bowls, plays air hockey and races virtual motorcycles in i-D’s Wise Up Issue, shining bright in a shoot by Scott Trindle and Erika Kurihara. With her black hair and black eyes she looks like a super cute, 21st-century Audrey Hepburn from the Chinese metropolis, in colourful futuristic looks from pheasant-embroidered Proenza Schouler to purple-rosy Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière tiger stripes to a mandarin corset in jaguar polka dots by Ryan Lo. Xiao Wen from Xi’an in Shaanxi province is usually seen smiling, sticking her tongue out, starring in campaigns for Marc Jacobs, Kenzo, Dior, she’s hyper pretty and hella fun! Why not read her interview below, or follow her Instagram @jujujuxiaowen?

How was your shoot with Scott and Erika, was it fun hanging out in the bowling alley?

I love working with them and had a lot fun during the shoot. We went bowling! Scott said do whatever you wanna do.

How were you scouted?

I was found on the street, people asked me to be a model then I took part in a model competition. Beijing was my first place, then I stayed in Hong Kong for six months and now I’m a professional model in NYC.

Why do you like New York?

I can stay there easily and I can feel the freedom do whatever I wanna do! I like walking when the weather is nice, there are lots of interesting things happening on the street. Also there are so many different foods – Japanese is the best I think, haha ; )

Are there any amazing new Chinese models we should be looking out for?

Tang Xiaotian, male model!

What was it like growing up in Beijing?

It’s modern and Chinese and changing – more nice buildings are going up, more events are happening, there’s more shopping malls, and more people enjoying life. When I was younger I was in school but I didn’t like studying at all, I was always listening to my favourite singers, watching movies and “fighting” with my parents!

What are your three favourite films?

The first is Léon, I really like Natalie Portman when she was a little girl, I like her hair and her coat. And Jean Reno is so lovely, he’s a killer but really loves the little girl, it’s a warm film. The second is Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I love all of Audrey Hepburn’s movies. And the third is the classic one, Titanic, I don’t think anyone doesn’t love it!
