donbot Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I'll start with a Pulp song, which was actually released on Christmas Eve last year, but who remembers that <_< It was written some years ago, but was just recently produced and released in this form.. dunno if it's a sign of more new stuff to come from them or not. I hope so though! James Murphy was one of the producers to work on it too - he sure has been getting around since LCD Soundsystem broke up Quote
donbot Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 So first live music of the year for me - I went to the Southbound Festival on the weekend I got to see.. Day 1: - Ball Park Music - Matt Corby - Sharon Van Etten - (little bit of) Django Django - The Vaccines - Boy and Bear - The Hives - The Flaming Lips Day 2: - First Aid Kit - Maximo Park - Best Coast - (little bit of) Lisa Mitchell - Bombay Bicycle Club - Rodrigo Y Gabriela (fucking mindblowing guitarists - go check them out if you can!) - Beach House Ones in bold were the real standouts. Beach House Quote
Michael* Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 - Rodrigo Y Gabriela (fucking mindblowing guitarists - go check them out if you can!) Seconded. If I were ever decisive enough to make a list of my top five or ten favourite gigs ever, they'd be on it. Quote
Michael* Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 New Suede on Monday, new Bowie on Tuesday. No pressure, Wednesday! http://youtu.be/FOyDTy9DtHQ Quote
donbot Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 ^ New Atoms For Peace (Thom Yorke, Flea, et al collaboration) Quote
donbot Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 Sharon Van Etten does Nick Cave. Oh my Quote
Michael* Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 ^Love it. Still very early days of course, but this is the best thing I've heard so far in 2013. For fans of Lykke Li, Grimes, Robyn etc. Quote
Joe > Average Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I need to check some actual release dates before I contribute, but that's a good one indeed . Quote
Michael* Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 ^ Here's the new 'teaser' for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' much-anticipated (by me, anyway) fourth album, due in the middle of April. It seems like everybody's doing the low-key comeback thing this month. Curious cover too... Quote
Michael* Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 And here's a couple of the new songs, debuted live recently... Quote
Michael* Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Really like this one at the moment as well. Rather like MGMT at their most psychedelic, with brilliantly ridiculous or ridiculously brilliant (take your pick) lyrics. Very much looking forward to hearing the album now. Quote
donbot Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Great stuff Really looking forward to the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs. That cover is horrible though Quote
Michael* Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 That cover is horrible though 'Curious' was my code for 'rubbish' Quote
Michael* Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 London duo The Correspondents have just released the promo for their upcoming single 'Well Measured Vice'. The song isn't bad, but the video is just great. Apparently, it's made up from over 2,000 frames, all of which were hand-drawn by the lead singer over a period of three months. Slightly mind-blowing. Quote
Michael* Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 Also, if like me you’re having a hard time waiting for new PJ Harvey and/or Sharon Van Etten material, give Torres a go. Really hits the mark, unlike her Chelsea namesake (arf!). Quote
donbot Posted January 25, 2013 Author Posted January 25, 2013 ^Great stuff! Very Van Etten Sleigh Bells have told triple j they're almost half way through their follow up to last year's Reign of Terror.Alexis and Derek popped into the triple j studios ahead of their final Big Day Out shows this weekend and said fans can look forward to some cheerier sounds on the new LP. "We've been really productive. We're 5 songs deep into our new record so it'll be out sooner rather than later." "It's not as dark", guitarist Derek Miller said of their sound. "I kind of worked through a lot of difficult stuff on the last record." "We always reference Comeback Kid as being the last song that we recorded and that brought us in a different music direction," added Alexis. "Different headspace, just more up and positive...not as downer" Quote
Michael* Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Finally get to see them live on Monday.. can't wait I also went to a Weezer show the other night. First time they've been in the country in 16 years They played a sort of 'best of' set, followed by the Blue Album in full.. amazing :Dinah: Sleigh Bells and Weezer within a week? Consider me envious, sir! :persuazn: 'The Blue Album' is one of the best records in the world. Quote
