Shepherd Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Broadway, film and television actress Anna Camp, known to cable TV audiences as Sarah Newlin on HBO's thriller drama True Blood, was raised in Columbia, South Carolina where she attended Meadowfield Elementary School. In second grade, she began taking acting courses and made her debut performance as a dealer in a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) stage production, an anti-drug abuse program which began during Ronald Reagan's presidential term. Camp also grew up with the tradition of watching c films with her family whom she considers performers in their own rights -- her former-dancer mother, her actress sister, and her "should-be-comedian" father. While she was enrolled at Dreher High School in Columbia, South Carolina, Anna was actively involved in the school's theater program making herself available either onstage or backstage helping with the lights and props. With the backing of her parents, she studied at North Carolina School, joined its Drama program, and earned her BFA degree in 2004. Upon graduation, Anna packed her things in a U-Haul van and headed out to New York City seeking acting opportunities. Already signed up for a talent agency prior to her arrival, Camp got her first audition the day after she moved in. For a couple of years, Anna appeared in several commercials and Off-Broadway and regional productions including columbinus at the New York Theatre Workshop, God Hates the Irish at Rattlestick Theatre, Flesh and the Desert at Playwrights Horizons, Hay Fever at Baltimore Center Stage, and The Importance of Being Earnest at the Dallas Theatre Center. After her movie debut in And Then Came Love in 2007, her television series debut appearance in a Cashmere Mafia episode and a handful of lesser-known films in 2008, Camp was hired to play the preacher's wife in Alan Ball's vampire series True Blood. 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Culver City, Apr 14 '13 Quote
