Cult Icon Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I've noticed that several top models have adopted bangs for a very long time. Case in point: Julia Stegner, Freja beha, and Karlie Kloss. 1. What are your views about Bangs vs. 'the so-called 'Severe Forehead' ? Are long foreheads accretive to beauty or are they not? 2. Why do you think that models adopt bangs later on in her careers? 3. Name a few models that have encountered the 'Bang vs. forehead' choice. Quote
Cult Icon Posted July 6, 2013 Author Posted July 6, 2013 My personal view is that a woman's forehead is an essential part of her beauty. To cover her forehead down to the eyebrows is a crime... The bang that Freja sports in the photo is mild and enhances rather than detracts. The only situation where a woman should consider covering up her entire forehead is if it is especially long or oddly shaped. eg. Hanne Gaby's forehead is ......too much forehead. Freja's forehead looks severe when she combs her hair backwards but is otherwise fine. Julia Stegner's forehead is medium in length and did not deserve the cover-up. And finally of course, Karlie....her current hairstyle is a disaster to me, and I miss her long hair. A LOT. Quote
Shepherd Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I think they can add an air of mystery to a woman or sometimes even a sense of girlishness. Pulling it off is not easy though. It depends on many factors; the hair itself, eye spacing, the shape of the jaw, fullness of the lips, even body type to an extent. Two bad examples that come to mind are Jessica Biel, whose thick hair made made her seem to be peering out of shrubbery and the short bangs on Krysten Ritter with her relatively thin hair. Both seem to have moved on fortunately. A good example to me would be Mena Suvari, whose high forehead almost demands bangs. Three votes? Come on people! Quote
Michael* Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 As with any hairstyle or item of clothing, a lot depends on who's wearing it. For Julia Stegner or Isabeli Fontana, I greatly prefer the 'long and parted in the middle' look, but for someone like Zooey Deschanel, it's hard to imagine her sporting any other style than the fringe. In fact, witnessing a few recent pictures of her with it swept to the side triggered a slight malfunction somewhere in my brain. Respectfully disagree on Karlie’s current cut though, I actually think she suits the shorter hair more. Quote
donbot Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I really dislike the term 'bangs'. I've always referred to it as a fringe, and it's just strange and awkward to me to refer to it as a plural term Besides the point though. I've never thought of a fringe as covering anything up - just a different style, and different way of framing the face. I especially love it on Julia actually - it suits her magnificently Quote
Cult Icon Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 Nice comments and insights, people. --------------- ^I've usually heard of it as 'Bangs'. Maybe it's an American thing. I am not a fan of bangs on either men or women. But bangs that are accompanied by long hair can work very well (Zooey). But in my mind, it's a one-note look. (oh, cute!) Whenever I talk to a woman with hair like that, I find that clump on her forehead to be rather distracting up close....and not in a good way. Also, I think it is effective in making unattractive women look more attractive (by reducing the flaws in their face) and make attractive women look...less attractive. :blueeyedbaby: A woman with beautiful eyes, nose, and mouth but a less attractive forehead, hairline, cheekbones, and brow can hide or modify these attributes (or defects!) with a fringe. Older women, far past their prime... work well with bangs as bangs help make a woman's face look more juvenile. Karlie's haircut is particularly grating for me as it's a hairstyle I usually associate with age 45+ fashionable east coast women and oriental girls.. Quote
Stormbringer Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 As in general, I'm not the biggest fan of bangs. But I have to say that in some cases they work really good. But actually, looking at my favorite models, most of them keep an uncovered forehead. Heidi Klum comes to mind as an example. She looked as good with an uncovered forehead as with bangs: And as for Karlie, I definitely liked her a lot more with long hair... Quote
Cult Icon Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 ^ SB, that's one of the best Heidi looks I've ever seen. Do you collect Heidi? :-) Here are pictures of 'old Karlie' and models with dramatically different-than-usual hairstyles (Jac, Karlie, Edita, Dewi, Freja, Frida, Julia). Striking difference: http://postimg.org/gallery/9n5yuh2w/01b857db/?code=01b857db Quote
Stormbringer Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 ^ Though they look good with bangs, I like them more without them. BUT, on Karlie y definitely prefer the long hair. It suits her much more in my opinion, which apparently isn't the predominant point of view here . ^ SB, that's one of the best Heidi looks I've ever seen. Do you collect Heidi? :-) Yes I do!. I have quite a collection of her. Quote

Lkjh Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 A bit off topic, but just wanted to post my precious Zoeey and show how much of a difference they can make. Bangs are just her 'thing' and she's unrecognizable without them In her case, definitely bang Quote
Cult Icon Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 ^ Zooey's hairstyle in the first picture is just a flop. The thickness of hair (and the use of a ton of hairspray...) looks to me that she just had her stylist re-position without actually cutting it. So it's a temporary hairstyle just for that social event. Clever W, I raise you two: She is beautiful in both, and I prefer...<3 Quote
