Clauds Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I saw the first episode today and it wasn't that great, I don't know if my expectations were too high or something but it just wasn't what was expecting I'll wait for more episodes but so far it was a bit meh Quote
PinkCouture Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 ^ I feel the same way. I didn't have high expectations but the first episode was a bit "meh". It wasn't bad but definitely could have been better plot and writing-wise. I don't know how I feel about Van Helsing teaming up with Dracula. We will see how that plays out. I will say I do like the character Renfield. I will watch a few more episodes before forming an official opinion. Quote
liika Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 sometimes the first ep. isnt that interesting as expected indeed, but i think it will get better on next few episodes(happens a lot with other series) Quote
wickedcrazyness Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 ^I hope so. I was extremely disappointed with the first episode for a list of reasons. (Not going to get into it). Quote
Prettyphile Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 A man so small in stature that he looks a bit dwarfed by the actresses is not my idea of a Brooding,Tall, Dark and Handsome Dracula. Perhaps if the main actor was on the level of Gary Oldman's I could over look the height deficit? And speaking of acting... it was atrocious The funsies came from laughing at the large black Renfield... oh and it's not a smart idea to put wee little man that is "Dracula" next to someone the size of a third world nation, makes him look all the smaller Some of the accents were also like nails on a chalkboard, the costuming was pretty damn weak, and I'm waiting for White Wolf to sue to the shit out of NBC for directly taking terminology, names and ideas from their Role Playing games: Vampire the Requiem, Vampire the Masquerade, World of Darkness And in conclusion: Renfield is a large black man with an American accent even though he's supposed to be English. Dracula sporting a pornstash and a super rapey face isn't attractive Dracula pocket sized midget Also, wireless light-blubs in 1800's 3/10 for Reinfield Quote
liika Posted October 29, 2013 Author Posted October 29, 2013 oh dear..if the director of Dracula read this criticism, he will shut down the show immediately i havent really payed attention that Johnathan Rhys is that short, but as you mentioned it now i have the feeling that the role of Dracula will be more debauchering, and thats why they picked JRM as leading actor, cuz everyone who has seen his role in ''The Tudors'' will know why Quote
Clauds Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 ^ Actually Jonathan is 5'10 so he isn't short. He isn't particularly tall but he is alright. However I do have to say the accent's are shit. I adore Jonathan but his American accent sucks, big time. I re-watched the episode last night and I dislike it even more now that my original excitement is gone I'll watch episode two but if it's as bad I'll probably be done with the show. Quote
Socio Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I didn't like it all. I don't understand why main character is called Dracula, and why is he vampire at all (to fight with some kind of secret society?). I ound some similaritys to Da Vinci Demons, but this show much better. Nice ladies, good acting skills of former Henry Tudor, but Im not sure if I watch second episode. Quote
Clauds Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Watching the second episode. It sucks, I am done with this show. All the bad from the first episode is still there except the more they explain about the plot the less I like it, it doesn't make sense at all. I love you Jonathan RM but not even that beautiful face of yours is making me watch this show. Quote
PinkCouture Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I came in this thread to ask should I download the second episode. Based on the above post I guess it is "no" Let me know what the rest of you think. For now i will off on downloading episode 2. Quote
Michael* Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 All things considered, it's pretty mediocre stuff. The main problem is that it has neither a strong concept nor a tight narrative, both of which are essential to making a decent fist of re-imagining a well-known story. Doubly so if you only have a run of ten episodes to play with. Shame really, it's a role Rhys-Meyers was born for. Quote
Socio Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I got back to this show when polish Canal+ has started to air it. Still got mixed feelings about it. Probable I'll watch it to the end. But it's nothing special. Penny Dreadfull is making better impression Quote
dubstep Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I haven't gotten to watch yet but I haven't heard great things about it. Wanted to for JRM but it has already been canceled, that should say enough. Quote
