RafSecret Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The Costa Rica vs Dutch game deserves the award for the lamest 45 minutes ever. Both teams are being incredibly lousy (and I'm team Dutch by the way). The Dutch are spending far too much time trying to confuse their opponents, and without any action, the game is becoming once again, more free kicks than actual football. Costa Rica is bunching up far too much, if they want action and a chance to proceed, they need to stop all flying to defence, and have at least some people nearer to the Dutch post. Let's hope the second half shows some improvement. Quote
Mahi Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Wow,I almost dyed when watching the Dutch trying to score but faced so bad luck,so happy for their win. Poor games yesterday,to be added to the most boring tournament ever, really very bad WC this year. Would be a hard coming round in two days from now, hope to see excitement,I expect Brazil x Argentina at the final, considering they're the luckiest not strongest ones outthere. Quote
SureSwift Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Am I the only one who missed the ironic joke here? The ref seemed favourable towards Brazil in the opening game but every other match there has been no bias. Quote
MissNKlovesphotograph Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Oh, now I get it, thanks, SureSwift. Definitely not! This past 2 games for Brazil have been the exact opposite. The last one was pretty unfair in many ways, I guess if you have followed the games you know what happened by now. We couldn't be less fortunate. Quote
Michael* Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 Commiserations, Hervé. When Belgium gain more experience on this particular stage, I think they’ll be a potent force. Even more so if they can learn to adapt more on a game-to-game basis. They have players skilful and intelligent enough to play a possession based style, strong and powerful enough to go direct, and quick and predatory enough to play on the counter attack. Still not an entirely convincing display from Argentina, but like Brazil they keep getting it done. The game was brightened by Higuain’s lovely rifled finish, nice of him to finally turn up. Messi should really have been carded for covering his boots in double-sided tape. For a game that was only really worth watching from about the 80th minute onwards, Costa Rica and Holland didn’t half explode into life. I suppose in all fairness the best team won, Holland having rattled the woodwork on a couple of occasions. Costa Rica rode their luck at times, but they deserved to take it to a shoot-out and will go home as one of the teams of the tournament. Too bad their penalties weren't as good as the ones against Greece. A pity as well that after all Navas's heroics, it was Mag git Krul who ended up as the matchwinner. Every time he walked up to try and intimidate one of the Costa Rican players, it made me go from simply supporting an underdog to actively wanting the Dutch to lose. Where's Fabio Borini when you need him? Quote
la veronika Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 So the Dutch won by penalties? Was it at least an interesting match to watch?? I am so pissed off because from now on all matches are late I simply can't stay up to watch and I miss all the good games. Last night, Argentina's won wasn't impressive. One goal in the 8th minute and that was it. And the Dutch must have played very well but I didn't watch. Happy to see the European team advance, maybe we'll have a Euro final? Quote

Where's Fabio Borini when you need him? The biggest disappointment was the fact that - once again - it was made apparent that this Argentina aren't that great. I think we could have won that game with a better tactical set-up. I don't expect them to win the WC, either Holland or Brazil/Germany will prove too much. Quote
tiika Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 This is the way colombia receives the football team https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Br3aKL3CQAElpkq.jpghttps://pbs.twimg.com/media/Br3ZR9NCMAAmEt9.jpghttps://pbs.twimg.com/media/Br3e50FIMAA2p-q.jpg Like heroes! Quote
CanLVS Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Thats always nice to see, they really did play their hearts out. I don't want to wait until Tuesday for this game. I still think Brazil will win. Quote

Captured my imagination in a way that I'm sorry to say England never have. Quote
Michael* Posted July 6, 2014 Author Posted July 6, 2014 So the Dutch won by penalties? Was it at least an interesting match to watch??The closing stages were insanely gripping, although in truth the first 80 minutes bordered on mind-numbing. Holland played similarly to the way they did against Mexico and relied on a slice of luck at the end, but Van Gaal's gamble in the shoot-out paid off, thus deserving the plaudits. The romantics out there will shed a tear for Costa Rica, who were just a couple of penalties away from becoming the biggest outsiders to ever reach a semi-final. Quote
Clauds Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I actually think Argentina played really well yesterday Especially considering Belgium at times had their 11 players defending, not quite as a lame as Iran but Belgium didn't deserve to win at all. You can't compare Argentina to Brasil because unlike Brasil, Argentina has won every single match without referees helping them, Argentina would have advanced anyway but Brasil? Pretty sure they would be out already if it wasn't because of the love they are getting from the referees. Has Argentina been out of this world great? Nope, but let's be honest ... ANY of the teams have been that great, with the exception of Colombia a team that nailed it in every single game but had the bad luck of facing Brasil. Let's be clear y'all, I want Brasil to lose very badly but truth is, they won't. They will make it to the final because money talks and FIFA knows it, they will find a way to make them beat Germany. Again the conspiracy theory...That's interesting France has losing her match because we was less good than German team... The same for Colombia, Belgium and all the the others, with some luck and strategy factors... If there is a conspiracy made by FIFA why Neymar has been murdered on the field ? LITERALLY... conspiracy ? i think no... Plus, i think Argentina play very bad this year, ok they have 2 stars on their jersey, but it's forgot that the first star won in '78 at home was LITERALLY bought by the military dictators... can we speak of conspiracy, mhmmmm yes Quote
Clauds Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 ^ Colombia did not play bad at all o.O ... They are the only team that comfortably won every single game, David Luz kicked James a good seven times and got no cards, that is just NOT right, and Julio Cesar's fault should have been a red card too and it wasn't, why? Because the referees simply won't do anything that will affect the Brazilian team. What happened with Neymar is something that escapes the referee's power, they obviously can't control certain things. And after 80 minutes of letting the Brazilians beat the shit out of James, the referee couldn't say anything anymore, plus in that moment nobody knew how bad the injury would be. It's not just me saying it, at this point everyone has come to terms with the fact that Brazil will most likely make it to the final regardless of lame they have been playing because that's what FIFA wants. I honestly don't know a fuck about the '78 conspiracy theories, I wasn't even born back then and I obviously didn't see the matches so I can't speak for that. But this year it's very clear that the referees have favored Brasil in every game and without their help they wouldn't have won at least two of the matches, therefore they would be out already. Quote

LOL! Right, because these are the stats from a game where one side spent 90 minutes defending. We had more passes in the final third which means we spent more time trying to attack the Argentinian goal than the other way around. Quote
Michael* Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 I actually think Belgium would have been better served by essentially putting eight men behind the ball and deploying Fellaini as an out-and-out target man, rather than starting him in a deeper role and granting him license to roam. When he tried to break forward into the second striker position, De Bruyne was expected to drop back, but he only did it half-heartedly, leaving Witsel isolated against Messi’s runs. A touch of tournament naivety perhaps. Quote
Michael* Posted July 7, 2014 Author Posted July 7, 2014 Looks like Marco Rodriguez, the Mexican referee who sent Marchisio off, will be in charge of Brazil and Germany. He apparently once felt compelled to ask people to stop calling him 'El Chiqui Drácula' because of his supposed resemblance to a vampire. I would have thought he need only have a change of hairstyle for that to happen, but the slicked back look is probably the only one you can manage when you can't see yourself in the mirror. If they were to somehow sneak past the Germans, I suspect Brazil would rather play Argentina in the final, and target Messi because he doesn't dive. If they were to meet Holland instead, Robben would probably already be on the floor by the time a Brazilian got near him. Personally, I’m hoping for an all-South American or all-European final, none of the other combinations appeal to me as much as Argentina and Brazil or Germany and Holland. Quote

OMG, So you never studied History at school, '78 IS history, it's a FACT, not a legend... And you said that you was even not yet born, well, so stop to talk english or spanish, they was invented before your birth, so maybe they are just a conspiracy to compete the Mandarin language Now France is out (and well deserved) i hope for a european final ! ...and a well deserved victory of the Oranje Quote
jj3 Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 In other way, in saying that, i really don't want defend FIFA, i think that FIFA is one of the cancer of football/soccer, but i always thought that FIFA and football are two different things, and i'll be very curious to see one day Platini (the actual president of UEFA) as president of FIFA ! A former football player as president, a real good idea IMO. Quote
