Bridgestone pushes the boundaries of tyre innovation and we want to continue to tap into the lifestyle market, so aligning with an exciting campaign like SA Swimsuit has served us extremely well in terms of market positioning,” said Jan Maritz, Bridgestone’s promotions and advertising manager. jj3 Posted May 30, 2014 Author Posted May 30, 2014 BEHIND THE SCENES: MODEL SEARCH FINALIST SHOOT The day of the SA Swimsuit Model Search 2014 Finalist shoot had finally arrived, and even though it was a rainy, grey, miserable Wednesday for most people, it was an incredibly exciting day for the finalists! Five of the girls were already well on their way to Cape Town by the time most of us were just waking up. Nonhlanhla Mhlongo travelled the furthest and told us that she’d been up since 2am to make it to Cape Town on time, a brilliant effort! Despite the butterflies and the travel, the finalists all arrived looking fantastic. For these 12 lovely ladies this was an exciting, intense and fun filled day that the weather simply couldn’t have ruined. The venue for the shoot was Roodebloem Studios in Woodstock Cape Town, a converted church building oozing character and charm. The cold conditions meant that the heaters were cranked up all the way and the models were cozied up in cute bath robes with cups of coffee. The Make-Up and Hair artists were busily making sure each and every girl looked her best, until the time came to show their talents in front of the lens. If there’s a man to calm the nerves of skittish models then that man is Super Swimsuit photographer, Jacques Weyers. Quick with a smile or a joke, he puts the models at ease whilst his camera captures their natural beauty. They couldn’t have been in better hands. This year there was a notable and exciting change on set with a red background being used for the first time. The colour befits the colours of the Model Search Sponsor GNC. The combination of the white GNC swimsuits against the red backdrop was truly eye-catching. The GNC team were there for their first behind-the-scenes experience with the SA Swimsuit Model Search, and for a first, it did not disappoint! SA Rugby Magazine had a camera set-up to interview the models as they came off the red set. Finalists were either taking #selfies to introduce themselves, trying on their cute new Havaianas, or admiring Bulova’s stunning watches … it was all happening! But time flies when you’re having fun and before we knew it the day everyone had been waiting for was over! The shuttle arrived to take the out-of-towners back to the airport, and the local girls to the opening party of the new GNC store at the V&A Waterfront. As we left the studio the sun was peeking through the clouds and all was good with the world! Over 400 hopefuls entered Model Search in the hope of becoming ‘The One’. 25 000 voters logged 80 000 votes in a keenly contested competition. The prize – a coveted place in the pages of SA SWIMSUIT 2014. The initial voting and judging phase of the competition took place in an incredible spirit with a real sense of community forged, despite the magnitude of the prize on offer.
